On the first day of Tech-mas, my EdTechs gave to me: Hour of Code resources that are free!
It's the most wonderful time of the year - that's right, it's time for Hour of Code! This year, Computer Science Week will be commemorated worldwide from December 5 - 9, and this year's celebration is special because this is the 10th year of Hour of Code! According to Code.org, one of the primary motivations for Hour of Code is that "Students today should learn how to create technology, not just use it." We couldn't agree more!
No matter what grade level or subject area you teach, this is a great time to give your students a one-hour introduction to coding. This year's theme is "Explore, Play, and Create." We want our students to understand how computer science impacts their everyday lives in innumerable ways, from improving athletic performance to creating art and music! Whether you're a coding expert or a complete newbie, we've got you covered with links to activities that are easy, engaging, and free!
Check out Code.org's intro video, which tells you how to run an Hour of Code activity in your own classroom. But you don't have to limit the fun to your own class - why not collaborate with your teaching partners so the excitement grows to your entire grade level or school site?
Speaking of Code.org, there is no better place for K-12 students to start coding. Their extensive collection of coding tutorials is growing every year. No matter what your students' ages or experience levels, you'll find something here for everyone.
